| NEW DIRECTOR OF COACHING
All change at Teddington for next season as Director of Coaching Michelle Mitchell has decided to step down. After 3 amazing years with Teddington, Michelle has taken the decision to pass on the mantle and spend more time with her growing family.
A huge thank you for all of the work Michelle has done over those three years goes out from everyone that she has worked with at every level of the hockey club.
Michelle is to be replaced by another high calibre formed International, Callum Giles. It is with great pleasure that we welcome Callum to the club and hope that his tenure is just as successful as Michelles. The attached document gives some more details. Download: Director_Of_Coaching

MENS VETS PLAY-OFF VICTORY
More silverware for the club as Teddington Vets beat Barnes in the Wessex League play-offs at Southgate on Saturday. An outstanding all-round performance was completed by a goal from Sherv Behzadi to produce a well deserved 1-0 victory. Teddington had 15 short corners compared to less than 5 corners from Barnes, but this apparent statistical superiority did not reflect the reality of a very tight and tense contest. The conditions were torrid. High temperatures, relentless sun and an unforgiving dustbowl pitch intensified the highly charged atmosphere of this local derby, with Teddington determined to avenge an earlier regular season defeat.
Most of the squad are, of course, at their physical peak, but the fact that the team could overcome these demanding conditions owed much to an irresistible spirit and true group effort. Most of the squad had forsaken the comforts of an Easter with the family to go on training camp in Italy, which was not only physically taxing, but, at times, mentally tortuous. Strength in depth was another key success factor and this was a victory for the full squad. The group was virtually at full strength thanks to huge efforts on two fronts. Some strove to fly in from all corners of the globe, despite the disruptions of the volcano, while others managed to overcome a variety of injuries and complete recovery programmes in time for the final. The Wessex League, covering most of southern England, is the strongest Vets League in the country and thus Teddington could arguably lay claim to being the strongest Over 35 Vets team in the country, so congratulations to all concerned.

| Teddington European Success | |||
Teddington returned from the European Veterans Championships in Utrecht with a very hard earned Bronze medal. Amongst tough opposition the old girls’spirit shone through to secure 3rd place. We went to the Championships to play as well as we could but also to embrace the social side of the event. We were as well prepared as possible with a full training and match programme under our belt knowing we would face younger teams as the age for vets in Europe is only 30 years old. We started brightly with a 2-2 draw against Voordaan, the home side, and could have won the game but for hitting the post and putting a couple of chances wide. Both goals came from Michelle Mitchell our former Australian International. Confidence high we then met Les Blue. The French side fielded a number of former Internationals and although we competed brilliantly we just lost 2-3 with a highly disputed goal from the French and Teddington goals from Michelle Mitchell and Sara Walker our England Masters player. The second day saw a repeat of the matches with Teddington knowing we had to beat the Dutch, if not the French, to make the semi-final. With a performance to remember we played as if our lives depended on it and won 2-0 with goals from Michelle Mitchell and Ray Harmsworth. We lost again to the French in an even tighter game than the previous day, this time losing 1-2 . Although Les Bleu lost to Voordaan against the run of form because they lost their Gk and coach for the match, we had done enough to make the semis on the strength of our win against Voordaan. The semi-final saw us drawn against a second Dutch side, and favoutites, Kampong. This was a quality outfit with numerous ex-Internationals still playing Dutch National league. They had scored 28 goals so far with none conceeded. We competed fiercely and held them for most of the first half with some great saves by Dawn Forshaw, our England Masters GK, but sheer pressure opened cracks that were exploited and Kampong won comfortably in the end 8-1. Teddies never gave up and piled on the pressure ourselves to the very end and we took pride in taking a goal off Kampong in the dying minutes of the game with a stroke from Michell Mitchell. Despite the score, we came away from an excellent game that gave us the chance to play against the best in a match of great spirit and mutual respect. Michelle was able to renew her strong friendship and on-pitch rivalry with Dutch star Susan Van der Wielen. We went into the 3rd/4th play off determined to come away with bronze and took on the Welsh champions with whom we had spent the weekend in hilarious banter particularly over the capture of ‘Daisey’ their sheep mascot, which we hoisted up the flag of St George for a ransom of beer. By this time the squad was carrying a number of injuries, but patched up by our physio we put in a commanding performance taking an early 2-0 lead with both goals from Michelle Mitchell. A highly disputed goal from the Welsh brought on a very cometitive period, but calm, constructive and determined play brought further goals from Zoe Ardrey, Sara Walker and Anne Macartney. So we won the medal we were after.

| Teddington European Success - Part 2 | |||
Teddies coach, Tim Walker, not only managed to do a brilliant job preparing and coaching the team, but also played two games each day for the Scottish Vet’s team. Huge thanks must also go to team manager Helena Bohoslawec for all her work liasing with the organisers and getting us to and from the tournament with great humour. The squad was also fortunate to secure the services of club physio, Vix Rushmere. Throughout the weekend, but on the final day in particular, Vix worked extremely hard to ensure that the whole squad managed to make the field of play. Without her expertise the final outcome could have been very different. The ongoing success of the team is undoubtedly down to the unbelievable dedication and leadership of Captain Sara Walker. She can take full credit for building a solid and committed squad who are a great unit both on and off the pitch. Thanks also to the great band of supporters that came to cheer us on. The whole of the Ardrey and Rushmere families and players’ partners. They gave us great voice and backing when we needed it it most. The squad would like to say a massive thank you to our sponsors Opro for a full set of squad gumshields, Zoppo for donating stick bags to the squad and Multipower for their sports drinks, and energy and recovery fuel. VE DAY - MENS VETS SUCCESS IN EUROPE
That relentless youthful drive to find fresh challenges, seek out the best and overcome them saw the Mens Vets travelling to Italy over the Easter weekend. HC Bra, near to Turin, is a classy set up, playing in the Italian National League and they invited teams from Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Holland, England and, of course, Germany to challenge for the impressive and imposing Bra Trophy. The tournament was billed as a global smorgasbord of the very best that vets hockey has to offer from around the world and sure enough, the Italian crowds were not disappointed. Despite high quality opposition, Teddington ran out clear winners and brought home the coveted trophy to Broom Road in some style. The record speaks for itself. Played 5, won 5. Scored 24 goals and most impressive of all, keeper Paul Day did not concede one goal. The Germans were well beaten. Your correspondent had planned to offer more detailed reports on the trip and would like to thank the members of the touring party for their contributions to that, but due to an unfortunate technical problem, known as a glitch, these records seem to have been lost in the ether.
Overall it's fair to say that the Bra experience was thoroughly uplifting
