| About Teddington |
Teddington is a thriving hockey club, running 12 men’s and ladies’ teams, over 12 junior sides, and various mixed, indoor and occasional teams. Teddington Mens 1 play in the English Hockey League National South. Dating from 1871, Teddington is the oldest hockey club in the U.K. and probably the world. In the beginning, there was Teddington….
In 1871, members of the Teddington cricket club, who had recently moved to play in Bushy Park, were looking for a winter activity. They experimented with a ‘stick’ game, based loosely on the rules of association football. more |

| Hockey Rules update 2007/08 |
The major changes from 1 Jan 2007 are:
The forehand HARD hit which uses the EDGE of the stick is not allowed, even if a shot at goal. Only controlled forehand skills are permitted.
Teams can opt to play with:
a. 10 outfield players and a fully kitted GK
b. 10 outfield players and a helmeted GK
c. 11 outfield players.
These can be interchanged by substituion. See the downloadable full rules for more info.
There is no change to the interpretation of the rule concerning the foot, hand or body, although the wording has changed. Note if the offender gains an advantage this still IS an offence (guidance, 7Feb07).

| Join Teddington |
Teddington welcomes new players at all standards. We have 7 Men’s teams and 5 Ladies’ teams, plus an army of juniors. The Men’s 1s play in the English Hockey League Div 1. The Ladies’ 1s play in South League Division 3A. If you would like to join us, come along to training and introduce yourself to whoever is taking the session. Otherwise just e-mail us here! We look forward to welcoming you into the oldest hockey club in the UK and possibly the world.
